Memorandum from President Franklin D. Roosevelt on White House stationery to Postmaster General James A. Farely concerning the design for the Connecticut Tercentenary issue. The president favored the Charter Oak tree, a symbol of freedom, to represent the state of Connecticut on the 300th anniversary of its settlement. Further, he suggested the rose lilac color for this stamp, evidence of his influence in all aspects of stamp design.
