Owney received this token from Chauncey F. Owen, the postmaster of Sanborn, Iowa. Owen served as the town’s postmaster twice, from December 1884 to July 1885 and from February 1890 to January 1896. It would have been during his second term as Sanborn’s postmaster that he presented this token to Owney. During Owney’s lifetime, Sanborn was serviced by the Chicago, Milwaukee, & St. Paul railroad line.
