Owney, American, c. 1888 - 1897 · 1888-1897
Owney received this advertising token from watchmakers Simon Rumpf and Joseph Mayer. There is no additional information to indicate when Owney received the token, but by 1894 Simon Rumpf had fled the area, and possibly the country, while under investigation for fraud. By the next year, Joseph Mayer had started up a new jewelry wholesale business, Joseph Mayer and Bros., with his brothers Albert and Markus. Either Owney was given an old token, or he received it before Simon Rumpf and Joseph Mayer’s business was dissolved in 1894.
