Owney received this tag from members of the Taunton, Massachusetts post office. The Taunton post office provided their own, phonetic, spelling of Owney’s name, engraving the tag to “Onee” and presenting it to the dog on June 9, 1894. Taunton was an active railroad town, with a number of lines passing through.
