The final stamp in the Lincoln sesquicentennial series, this 4¢ dark blue features a pastel illustration by Fritz Busse of the seated Lincoln in the Lincoln Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Designed by Daniel Chester French, the statue was carved in Georgia white marble by the renowned Piccirilli Brothers at their studio in the Bronx, New York and shipped to Washington, D.C. in 28 pieces. It remains today one of the most successful and recognizable pieces of public memorial sculpture in the world and is visited by more than three million people every year. The stamp was issued at Washington, D.C.
