Owney received this token from the employees of the Pierre, South Dakota post office. At the time of Owney’s travels there were only three people employed at that post office. Robert N. Locke was the town’s postmaster and John H. McCord, originally of Illinois, and Fred S. Williams, born in Canada, served as the town’s postal clerks.
