THREE-CENT RED GEORGE WASHINGTON STAMP. The envelope, postmarked Sandusky, Ohio, May 12, 1865, bears a Federal prison mark, indicating examination of the prisoner's letter. Lt. Col. R. T. W. Doke used a U. S. 3-cent stamp to prepay the postage to Boston, residence of W. C. Rives, Jr., son of a Southern patriot. A concentric circle killer was used to cancel the postage stamp.
