Telegram to Cryder on September 5, 1918
Benjamin B. Lipsner, American, 1887 - 1971 · September 5, 1918
Capt. Benjamin B. Lipsner sent a Western Union telegram to A. F. Cryder in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, telling him to return to Philadelphia and be back at Lock Haven Saturday at noon. When Lipsner assumed his position as first superintendent of Air Mail Service, he appointed Cryder, a combination mechanic and rigger, to assist chief mechanic Edward C. Radel. Radel was flying the New York-to-Chicago pathfinder flights with Edward V. “Turk” Gardner in a Curtiss R4-1M two-seat biplane.
