This is a reproduction of the handstamp used to mark mail flown aboard the US Navy rigid airship ZR1 Shenandoah, which was launched in 1923 and wrecked 1925. The head of this handstamp reads: "AIR MAIL SERVICE/ VIA / U.S.S. SHENANDOAH." The makers name, "STAMP WORKS / AUBURN, NEBR.," is on the wooden base.
