c. 1846
This unused, 5-cent forgery is based on the 1846 stamp issued by Postmaster Frederick N. Palmer of Brattleboro, Vermont. The stamps are thought to have been made on a plate containing ten stamps, in two horizontal rows of five. For many years the forgery was known as mystery position 11 since it could not be plated.
