1960s
US Navy postal collection box. At the top of this red, white and blue collection box is a drop down lip to insert mail and the larger door below was used to retrieve the mail. The frame for collection times information is empty and there is no companion lock, but a padlock would have been used to secure the lower door. This 1960s mailbox is said to have served the crew of the USNS General Simon B. Buckner, which took part in a major operation during the Korean War and also transported troops in the Vietnam conflict.
