This envelope is from one of the Hincks brothers to his sister Leda. The letter was marked 'Examined' at Hilton Head. It was then put aboard a U.S. naval ship bound for Old Point Comfort, where it entered the U.S. mails on November 24, 1864. From there it went by sea to occupied New Orleans with the 3-cent 1861 stamp paying the regular postage.
