May 24, 1847, folded letter from Cardenas, Cuba, to New York, carried by sailing ship "Levant" to Philadelphia, where the letter entered US postal system on June 4, 1847. It was marked with a blue handstamp, "SHIP" (poorly struck) to show the letter came from a ship and a blue handstamp '7' in the upper right corner to show the postage due, 7-cents. This consisted of a two-cent ship fee plus US five-cent inland postage from Philadelphia to New York.
