This folded letter, from A.H. Spencer at his East Maui Plantation, received a 7-bar grid cork killer cancel and Honolulu circular datestamp before departure January 22, 1853, on the ship Excel. On arrival, the post office applied a San Francisco receiving mark and the "Ship 6" handstamp to indicate the postage due.
