Steel lock developed by Burton Andrus and manufactured by the Mail Equipment Shops in Washington, D. C. The case front was stamped "U. S. MAIL" by the manufacturer. The lock is commonly known as the "LA" lock, meaning Lock, Andrus. U. S. Patent number 1103015, dated July 7, 1914.
