Two brass buttons depicting a letter carrier, which were introduced in 1893, are secured on either side of the black patent leather bill to hold a black braid above the bill. The attached elliptical-shaped, metal badge number 322, has an 1888 patent date. Service badges were redesigned in 1922 to include an eagle atop the oval.This cap has badge number 322 attached.
