The envelope, postmarked New Orleans, Louisiana, April 23, 1863, bears an oval handstamped "paid 10" in black, indicating the steamship rate to Nassau, Bahamas. Remnants of a 3-cent U. S. stamp and a handwritten rate of 4-cents (postage paid within Nassau) are also present.
