CSA Jefferson Davis (CSA Scott 6), tied by Richmond, Virginia, May 15, 1862, date stamp, buff envelope addressed to Cobham, Virginia. Printed and engraved by Thos. De La Rue, Ltd., a London, England, company hired by Postmaster General John H. Reagan to supply the Confederate states with quality postage stamps. This is the first to be produced typographically. Since the rate changed to ten cents on July 1, 1862, used singles are scarcer than pairs.
