leather protector for trousers that attached at the waist and functioned as a buffer between trousers and letter carrier's satchel, reducing wear and tear on the uniform; per note "Donated by John E Johnson, Retired Carrier"; flat, u-shaped piece of brown leather with 3 metal, brass colored belt hooks each attached by 2 silver colored rivets; seam in leather below middle hook proceeds half way down protector and is reinforced on verso by extra strip of leather; reinforcement behind other 2 hooks is in the form of a small piece of leather
