ALEXANDRIA D.C. postmark; handstamp paid and boxed 10; manuscript Paid No. 155; to Upper Marlboro, MD; 10 cent rate carried a double letter up to 300 miles per postal rate act of 1845 (letter indicates that a draft was enclosed). Alexandria was ceded by Virginia to the District of Columbia in 1789 and retroceded to Virginia in 1847.
