A duplex submarine telephone cable, cut to show construction, mounted on a metal base. Metal plate attached engraved - "Submarine telephone cable / Martha's Vineyard to Mainland / Laid August, 1916 by / New England Telephone and Telegraph Company / Made by / Western Electric Company." Cable is double armored with steel wire and has an inner lead sheath surrounding the paper-insulated conductors. The cable's total length was 4 miles,
