SULPH AURAT

This blown and molded square-shaped glass bottle has a narrow neck and a flared lip. The baked white enamel label is outlined with a stylized golden wreath and a red bow at the bottom of the label, and a crown. The label is marked <i>SULPH AURAT</i> in black text with the alchemical symbol for antimony at the bottom. This jar would have contained Sulphur Auratum Antimonii, or Golden Sulphur of Antimony. Golden sulphur of antimony consisted of antimonic sulphide, a golden yellow powder. Also known as sulphur antimonii praecipitatum it was used as an emetic.
