This drug jar is marked "SEMEN NIGELLI". Nigella Satavia also known as black cumin is native to southern Europe, southeast Asia and northern Africa. The today its seeds are used as a condiment but as this drug jar shows they were used for medicinal purposes as well. Nigella was used as a tonic, astringent and for flatulence.
