Ol*Rosa*Sempl*

This syrup jar has a straight spout and a strap handle. The manganese-colored gothic label reads <i>Ol Rosa Sempl</i>, and could refer to Oil of Roses. A second label applied in the cold paint technique reads <i>Ol Laurin</i>. Also known as Laurel ointment and oil of bay-laurel berries. Laurel berries are native to the Mediterranean region and were used for arthritis, various skin conditions, colic, flatulence and hysteria. The mouth and spout of the jar are closed, possibly with cork, and covered with a black sticky substance. The metal lid is not original to the jar.
