18th century
This blown and molded bottle is marked ESS CHAMEDR, and would have contained the Essence of Chamaedrys, or the essence of germander. Essence of germander was made from the Teucrium chamaedrys plant and would have been used to alleviate a variety of gastric issues. The generic blue and yellow Baroque decoration with its stylized crown above the cartouche is similar to glass drug jars in the collection of the Deutsche Apotheken-Museum in Heidelberg.
