Oil lamp

This oil lamp has three receptacles in the shape of lion heads. The wicks are threaded through the oil receptacle which terminates with an owl finial. A long metal rod extends from the reservoir bowl to the square base supported by four feet. The base is decorated with swan-like birds. Tools including a hook and a snuffer are attached to the lamp with metal chains. This type of lamp could be fuelled by olive or vegetable oil. It was used throughout Europe, but was particularly popular in Italian city states.
