SAL, EPSOMEN
18th century
The wide mouth jar is marked <i>SAL, EPSOMEN</i>, and would have contained Epsom salt, which could be used as a cathartic, diuretic, and diaphoretic. The jar is free blown with a flared lip, and an applied foot. The baked enamel label is a white shield surrounded by a blue wreath. Atop the shield is a red, yellow, and white crown capped with a blue orb.
