ELIX APERITIV CLAUD

This blown and molded bottle is marked <i>ELIX APERTIV CLAUD</i>, and would have contained Clauder’s Apertivium Elixir. Gabriel Clauder (1633–1691) was a German physician who formulated his own elixirs. This elixir consisted of potassium carbonate, ammonium chloride, elder flower water, aloe, myrrh, and saffron. The elixir was used as a laxative or as an emmenagogue to induce menstrual flow.
