This blown and molded bottle is marked <i>ESS CORT CITR</i>, and would have contained the Essence of Cortex Citron, or the essence of citron bark. The rind of the citrus fruit <i>Citrus Medica</i> would have been steeped in alcohol to create a solution that would have been prescribed as an aromatic stomachic, cooling antiseptic, or antiemetic (to relieve vomiting and nausea).
