Fruit dish from George and Martha Washington's formal dinner service

This fruit dish is from the Sèvres banquet service that he and Martha Washington used for formal entertaining in the presidential mansions in New York and Philadelphia. George Washington purchased the service from the Comte de Moustier, the French minister to the United States who was leaving to return to France. When Washington resigned the presidency and retired to Mount Vernon, he took with him the china and furnishings that he had personally supplied for the presidential mansion.
