These wedding cake toppers were used at the wedding celebration of David DeFelice and Paul Scherbak. Gay marriage was legalized June 16, 2008 in the state of California. David and Paul decided to get married before the November election with its Proposition 8 referendum 9 that threatened to limit marriage to opposite sex couples. David and Paul were married June 27, 2008 in San Francisco, California, eleven days after gay marriage had been legalized. In the November 2008 election, Proposition 8 referendum 9 was passed and gay couples no longer had the right to a legal marriage.
