This black and white lithograph, made in 1836, portrays a young Black woman. She wears a long, patterned dress with full sleeves, carries a purse and a sachet, and wears long drop earrings. Below the image is the caption, “THE MAN-MONSTER, Peter Sewally, alias Mary Jones &c&c. Sentenced 18th June 1836 to 5 years imprisonment at hard labor at Sing Sing, for Grand Larceny. Published by H.R. Robinson, 48 Courtlandt St. N.Y.”
