The setting is outdoors with tufts of grass and weeds in the background. Prang's quarterly publication "Prang's Chromo," Christmas, 1869 described the print through a Baltimore Sun review as 'The little chicks are as like nature as they could be made, without the intervention of a hen'...The coloring is rich and beautiful; and the whole picture presents an appearance of artistic finish, and possesses a life-like air that could hardly be surpassed”
