This colored print depicts a man pointing a gun at another man in a drawing room. Three men look on in horror, two of them dressed in the redcoats of British officers. The plot centers around Shamus, an Irish freedom fighter wanted by the British authorities. He comes out of hiding to confront a rival for the hand of his sweetheart. A silent film version of the 1865 play <i> Shamus O’Brien </i> was released in the United States in 1912.
