Brass hydrometer with square spindle marked “G. Atkins Fenchurch Street London.” There are three round brass weights, and a wooden sliding rule to correct the reading for changes in temperature. The signature is that of George Atkins, a mathematical instrument maker who had a shop on Fenchurch St. by 1804, and who later worked at other addresses.
