William Chambers’ The Universal Navigator; or a Comprehensive Treatise of Navigation was published by Allason Foster of Whitehaven in 1766. The book taught navigation using geometry, trigonometry, logarithms, by natural sines and tangents, instrumentally, and by tables of latitude. It also included the Gregorian Calendar, as well as tables for the Prime-Epact, the Moon’s age, and tide tables. .
