Patent model for Henry S. Cochran, “new and useful Improvements in Scales for Weighing Bullion, Coin, &c.,” U.S. Patent 205,354 (June 13, 1878). Cochran was a weigher at the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia. The “H. TROEMNER PHILAD” inscription indicates the firm that made the model. In 1893, Cochran confessed to having embezzled gold bars worth $134,000 from the Mint vault.
