This 1864 color print depicts a crowd of Union generals riding atop a mix of brown, black, and white horses. The highest ranking generals, including Scott, Grant, McClellan, and Sherman, are positioned in the front row and are identified at the bottom of the print. Behind the generals, a sailboat and steamboat cruise through New York Harbor, past the defenses of Fort Lafayette. This fortification was used during the war to detain Confederate prisoners of war and Northerners suspected of harboring Southern sympathies.
