Edward Hunter Murfee (1845-1932) was a graduate of the University of Alabama who served in the Civil War, taught physics in the post-war period, and later served as President of the University of Arkansas. In 1912, he obtained a patent for a differential resonator that was suitable for teachers of music or physics. This example is inscribed “Manufactured by Consolidated Optical Co., Ltd. Toronto.”
