The Construction of Docks at Brest

Pencil sketch of U.S. Engineers with the American Expeditionary Force (AEF) constructing docks at Brest, France, during World War I. Depicted are soldiers moving lumber and hammering it into place to build the wooden docks. There is a large triangular structure at the center that soldiers are climbing, and more triangular structures in the background. There are also ships floating in the harbor in the background, including one with smoke coming out of its smokestacks. Sketch is on white paper mounted on tan card, which is ruled with decorative graphite lines. Signed at bottom left by the artist, "W.J. Duncan, Brest, July 24, '18"
