Watercolor and charcoal sketch on paper board. The work depicts a double decked wharf at the American Base Port at Marseille in France. A large white ship is partially visible at the center of the painting, with brightly colored dazzle camouflage on on its hull. Several large orange cranes are next to the ship. Men are visible working on both the top and bottom levels of the wharf. Signed at the bottom left by the artist, "W.J. Aylward, A.E.F. '19." Also written at bottom is the title, "Double-decked Wharf - American Base Port at Marseille"
