Aylward, William James · 1919
Watercolor and charcoal on paper. The work depicts the Bassens Docks at Bordeaux, France. The docks are busy with dock workers and soldiers in uniform. A large orange building is pictured at the right of the painting with the number "7" painted on the front of the building in white. There are several large orange cylinders lying on the dock. Several large ships are docked to the left of the painting and cranes are transfering supplies to and from the ships. There are several plumes of dark smoke rising from smoke stacks, and blue sky and white clouds are visible through the smoke. Signed at bottom right by the artist, "W.J. Aylward, A.E.F. '19"
