An ophthalmoscope is used to examine the interior of an eye. The inscription on this example reads “SERIES G. No. 3544 / PATENTED / GENEVA IMPROVED / OPHTHALMOSCOPE & / RETINOSCOPE / MFGD. BY GENEVA OPTICAL CO. / CHICAGO, U.S.A.” The form was devised by Seth Alonzo Rhodes (1858-1943), an inventor and Mason who lived in the Chicago area.
