Patent model of Charles Page's 1853 electro-locomotive. US Patent 10480, Electromagnetic Engine, issued 31 January 1854 to Charles G. Page. No extant maker's markings. Four solenoids of heavy wires are set horizontally, with a sliding framework carrying the armature to and fro from the coils. A lever mechanism operates a small flywheel. Double-axis reciprocating engine. Patent Claims: The use of horizontal "axial" bars in combination with electromagnets and armatures, and the use of square wires in construction of helices.
