Plymouth Rock, Piece of

100-pound piece of Plymouth Rock, part of a larger 400-pound piece that served as a historic house doorstep after being cut off the granite Rock to help it fit into its original pavilion in 1867. This piece is cut vertically down the face of the rock on one end. Remains of a painted "1620" (which predated the chiseled date currently on the remaining pavilioned Rock) are visible on the flatter face that is generally positioned as the underside of this piece (though it was probably positioned as the front-facing side of the upper portion of the Rock that was for years displayed on the front lawn of Pilgrim Hall).
