This lithograph, printed in Milwaukee in 1864 by Louis Lipman, celebrates the Emancipation Proclamation. Issued by President Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863, the Emancipation Proclamation declared all African Americans enslaved in the seceded Confederate states to be free.
