Letter written by Mrs. Marion Potter to Armand De Rosset and John Potts Brown

A letter written by Mrs. Marion Potter addressed to "Messrs. De Rosset & Brown" dated September 7, 1857. The letter is written in brown ink on one side of a single sheet of off-white paper with a black border. The text of the letter discusses Mrs. Potter renting out two enslaved women, May and Brenetta, to DeRosset & Brown to work on a rice field. Potter expresses concern that the women, especially May who has not worked in a rice field before, may become ill from the work and requests that they receive medical care immediately. The letter is unsigned. On the verso are several labels in brown ink and graphite, including "Affairs at Plantation!" and "About the care + hire of slaves." On the right side there are two stamps in blue ink reading [Chas. S. Shultz / April 20, 1886 / New York].
