A free supplement to Illustrated London News No. 418 featuring an article on page 204 titled [THE SLAVE TRADE--THE AFRICAN SQUADRON.] Article reports on the motion made by British politician William Hutt withdrawing the British government from treaties that led it to deploy the West Africa Squadron. He notes that during the period of the Blockade of Africa that the number of enslaved persons taken from Africa had increased yearly while the conditions on slaving ships only worsened, and that this amounts to waste on the part of the British government. Petitions against this motion are noted at the top of the article and were lodged by Robert Inglis of the Church Missionary Society of Africa and the East, James Heald of the Wesleyan Missionary Society, Edward North Buxton, and one Mr. Moffatt from the Anti-Slavery Society of Exeter.
