This black and white oval photograph depicts a boy in a suit with short pants. He wears a light colored, double breasted suit jacket with dark pinstripes, and matching knee-length pants. He wears a tie, high dark sock, and dark shoes. Holding a dark hat in his left hand and a stack of books wrapped in a strap in his right, he stands with his left hand on his hip, gazing slightly to the right of the viewer. The photograph is mounted on a brown cardboard backing, with a embossed decorative groove framing the photograph. Above the photograph on the left side are the words "Off for school" handwritten in pencil, while underneath on the right side are the words "Amos Harper/ Galveston." Directly under the image is a faint stamp mark that reads Lucius Harper/ photographer/ pictures enlarged."
