He is sitting down smiling directly into the camera with his shadow casts in the background. In the bottom border of the photo, it says "Erskine Hawkins/ And His Orchestra" In the middle of the border, there is a small tear. To the right of the tear in the bottom left hand corner it reads "Bluebird/ Recording Artists". There are no inscriptions front or back.
